The mid-year symposium featured the research of more than 620 students from a wide range of disciplines. Most had received grants from the Adrian Tinsley Program that helped fund their work.
The event, held this year in the Rondileau Campus Center, celebrates early undergraduate scholarship and creative work conducted by students in any lower-division course. Students presented individually or in groups, in a variety of formats: academic poster, formal talk, video, performance, art display, or slide presentation.
The 2013 mid-year symposium showcased student writing, high-level math and science, and even mechanical devices built by student researches, such as the harmonograph (see video below).
BSU’s undergraduate research program has seen significant growth over the years. Students are mentored by a professor of their choice, and gain experience in the field that exposes them to new approaches, techniques and ideas. The results of their work can lead to acceptance at a graduate school of their choice or a career.
