With spring break approaching, BSU peer educators will hold a two-day event in the ECC lobby to discuss with students how to stay safe.
“We want the students to stop and think about what they are consuming,” said Ann Doyle, coordinator of outreach education.
The peer educators will discuss appropriate drink size and tips on traveling and driving safely.
Two experiments will be set up to help students comprehend the effects of drinking. “Do You Pour More?” will teach participants what a correct serving size is for beer, wine and shots, using a red Solo cup. The peer educators will show students that the first line is the appropriate serving size for hard liquor, the middle line for wine, and the top for beer. This allows students to know how much they should be consuming.
“Drunk goggles” will be available to allow students to experience how a inebriated person sees.
For those traveling, the peer educators recommend guarding against dehydration. Also, apply sunscreen every two hours and do not travel alone.
Other suggestions include do not drive distracted or while intoxicated, and have a plan before you begin drinking.
“We want to encourage students to make good decisions,” Ms. Doyle said. She added that using these helpful tips will allow students to have a safe, but fun spring break.
