The National Science Foundation has awarded a grant of $1 million for support of a project known as “Students Engaging In Science and Mathematics Interdisciplinary Collaborations,” or SEISMIC for short.
The project will be under the direction of faculty members Thomas P. Kling, Colby King and Stephen Waratuke, along with Dr. Jennifer Aizenman, director of the Center for the Advancement of STEM Education.
This award is spread over five years and was procured through BSU's Office of Grants and Sponsored Projects.
The NSF previously funded the Student Retention Enhancement Across Mathematics and Science program, with which Drs. Kling and Waratuck were also involved. Known as STREAMS, that project aimed to help more students graduate with science or mathematics degrees. In May 2010, the NSF awarded BSU a grant of nearly $1 million over five years to fund the project.
STREAMS transformed the BSU culture, providing new ways of teaching and learning, and helping students be more successful.
