Friday night, Bridgewater State University hosted a historic event titled, "Leadership and Democracy in Cape Verde: The Road Traveled -- the Destiny Set."

Historic, because it featured Cape Verde Prime Minister Jose Maria Neves and former Prime Ministers Carlos Veiga, and Pedro Pires. The three men discussed the history and future of the island nation.

"There's a wonderful breadth of history here," said Miguel Gomes, a former BSU administrator who helped organize the event.

Also on hand was Bridgewater President Frederick W. Clark Jr., who also spoke of the event's singular nature and importance.

"To have the modern history of Cape Verde in front of us and hear how they built a nation is wonderful," he said.

The event was streamed live on the Internet, but you can watch it here. (Video captured by TVS)
