Alpha Sigma Tau’s Epsilon Sigma Chapter at Bridgewater State University was recently honored with three national awards of excellence by the sorority. The awards were announced last week at Alpha Sigma Tau’s 41st National Convention in Jacksonville, Fla.

Chapter President Mary Woodbury and Vice President of Community Relations Haylee DeLuca were present to accept the awards.

“Our chapter is grateful to be honored in so many ways,” said Mary. “These awards represent the hard work over the two short years since our chapter chartered on campus. We could not be successful without the support of Alpha Sigma Tau and our fellow Bridgewater Bears in the fraternity/sorority community. We look forward to continuing our growth and defining excellence at Bridgewater.”

The Epsilon Sigma Chapter was recognized with:

The Elizabeth Wilson Award for Chapter Management, which honors the collegiate chapter that has exhibited excellence in operational and organizational management. The chapter was selected for this award because of its exemplary leadership on operations, finance, risk management, and safety. This includes having more than 80 percent of their membership successfully complete “Not Anymore,” Alpha Sigma Tau’s program to educate members on sexual assault and healthy relationships.

The Illuminate Leadership Award, which honors the collegiate chapter that has achieved group or individual leadership enhancement resulting from the sorority’s member development program, “Illuminate.” Epsilon Sigma was one of the first chapters to sign up for Illuminate, and has been utilizing it consistently ever since with tremendous success. As a result, members have bonded and grown with one another, and developed the skills to actively seek out leadership opportunities in their chapter and at Bridgewater.

The Edward Jervey/Martha DeCamp Award, which honors the collegiate chapter that has exhibited in all of its actions the highest adherence to the ideals and integrity of Alpha Sigma Tau. In the last two years, the Epsilon Sigma Chapter has been recognized for having the highest GPA of any fraternity and sorority on campus, received a campus award for their participation in “Illuminate” and other member development initiatives, and has raised thousands of dollars for various philanthropic projects.

“As these national awards demonstrate, Epsilon Sigma stands out as a model chapter in Alpha Sigma Tau,” said Tiffany Street, national president. “I was pleased to present these three well-deserved awards to Mary and Haylee on behalf of their chapter. I think I speak for Alpha Sigma Taus everywhere when I congratulate the women of the Epsilon Sigma Chapter on their accomplishments.”

Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority was founded November 4, 1899, at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan. The purpose of Alpha Sigma Tau is to promote the ethical, cultural, and social development of its members. The sorority offers membership programming with an emphasis on academic achievement, community service, leadership development, and personal growth opportunities.
