Dr. Ellen Scheible, assistant professor of English and coordinator of Irish studies, has been awarded a residency fellowship from Moore Institute at National University of Galway.

“I was shocked, but pleased,” Dr. Scheible said.

She’ll spend three or four weeks in Galway, where she’ll have access to archival material. The Moor Institute is known for its archives of Irish writers of the 19th and 20th centuries, and is on the cutting edge of post-colonial studies.

“Most important to me, I’ll also have access to all of the faculty and researchers who are on staff there,” Dr. Scheible said.

She is working on a book concerning the relationship between the representation of the domestic interiors in Irish fiction and the female body. A member of the faculty in Galway has already been selected as her mentor.

The residency will take place in May or June, Dr. Scheible hopes. Her goal is go come away with a polished book proposal to submit to publishers.

In addition to her research, she hopes to investigate opportunities for partnerships between BSU and the National University of Galway. (Story by John Winters, G ’11, University News & Media)
