Dr. Sandra Faiman-Silva, professor emeritus of anthropology, travelled to Taita, on the coast of Kenya, in early September to deliver donations to Kungu Primary School. Dr. Agnes Mwamb'ombe, who was instrumental in developing BSU's exchange partnership with the University of Nairobi, attended this school.
Dr. Faiman-Silva delivered four computers and school supplies to the primary school. Other members of the BSU community lending a hand in this effort were Ritesh Chandra, assistant director of the IT Support Services Division, who prepared the computers to be repurposed, and Eva Gaffney, director of marketing and communications, who donated the school supplies.
"The students and faculty were extremely grateful for the donations," Dr. Faiman-Silva said.
The exchange partnership between BSU and the University of Nairobi was developed under the direction of the late Dr. Edward Minnock, who was vice president of external affairs at Bridgewater. A handful of Nairobi students have entered BSU's master's of education program; three of these students will complete the program next May.
