“Energy Matters: Challenges and Prospects for Canada-US Relations” was the title of an all-day conference sponsored by BSU's Canadian Studies Program in cooperation with the Consulate General of Canada in Boston and the government of Quebec. The event was held in the Dunn Conference Center.
Dr. Andrew Holman, of the Department of History who is coordinator of BSU's Canadian Studies Program, arranged a full schedule of speakers for what was the Canadian Studies Spring Symposium. Their charge was to explore the issues surrounding energy studies. BSU President Dana Mohler-Faria delivered greetings at the opening session.
Among the speakers was Frank Ruddick, consul of public affairs, for the Canadian Consulate for New England, and Marianne Bonnard, director of government relations for the government of Quebec's Boston office.
Conference presenters included: Mr. Sean Conway, Killan Visiting Professor of Canadian Studies at BSU (who is a fellow for the Centre for Urban Energy at Ryerson University); Dr. David Yerger of Indiana University of Pennsylvania; Meredith Kravitz of the University of Toronto; and Dr. Darin Barney of McGill University.
“I was very pleased with the presentations,” said Dr. Holman at the program's conclusion. “They each spoke about different aspects of the major energy issues that face Canada and the U.S. today, and they each came at the subjects from different scholarly perspectives - economic, political, and cultural. I was thrilled to have the event so well attended, too, by our faculty, off-campus guest and, especially, by our own students.
