Nearly five months into her post, the director of Bridgewater State University’s new Cape Cod facility says she finds the job exciting but also challenging.
“We are really starting something from scratch,” said Jennifer True, who began work last September. “There has never been a four-year institution that has had a real presence on Cape Cod, so I consider it a huge opportunity for us.”
“We have a great partnership with the town of Yarmouth and everyone on Cape Cod has been really supportive, but it’s going to be a challenge. We really have to grow our undergraduate program," she said.
BSU Cape Cod is housed in a former Yarmouth school the university has renovated. So far, 40 undergraduate and graduate students are taking classes with up to 40 non-credit students expected this spring.
Ms. True has worked 12 years in higher education, including five as a BSU project manager after receiving a master’s degree from the university in 2002. She is thrilled to help the university serve a region that has struggled economically.
“I’m hoping this will be an opportunity for people to stay and get an education and find meaningful employment on the Cape year round,” she said.
