The College of Education and Allied Studies’ iPad initiative has been named an Apple Distinguished Program.
Last year, iPads became a mandatory part of the college’s educational programming, issued to students and to full-time faculty. iPads allow for the use of digital applications for creating learning and clinical environments, a robust and dynamic delivery system for course content, and more active and collaborative-based classrooms. For BSU’s future educators, iPads enable the development of individualized lessons for students, the ability to upload and produce books and other digital media, enhancement of literacy and vocabulary building, access to content-rich sites, and a myriad of engaging and interactive apps to improve and update all areas of instruction.
The iPad initiative, known as Propel BSU, was recognized by Apple as a distinguished program for demonstrating an innovative and compelling learning environment that engages students and provides tangible evidence of academic accomplishment.
Propel BSU will help graduates function more effectively within a society influenced by diversity and accelerated change. The aim of the program is to ensure that each student excels and is appropriately prepared to enter the workforce with the proper training, tools and technological skills they need to succeed, said Dean Lisa Battaglino, who spearheaded the effort to ensure that each junior, senior, and graduate student, along with all faculty members, have learned how to effectively use mobile devices.
