Keeping students engaged and involved is the focus of the annual National Association for Campus Activities Regional Conference. This year, members of BSU’s Office of Student Involvement and Leadership played integral parts in making the event a success. Meanwhile, a student and staff member took home some of the top honors.
Loryn Moynihan, ’14, program committee president, was one of five students presented with the Ken M. Bedini Award. This honor celebrates the impact these students have made at their institutions. Maribeth Flakes, associate director of OSIL, received the Unsung Hero Award, recognizing the work she has done for BSU, particularly in the area of student affairs.
Matt Miller, assistant director of OSIL, served as the program chairperson for the conference, which brought together more than 1,100 student, staff and associate delegates.
“The BSU delegation represented the university extremely well, stepping out of their comfort zones by networking with others from around our region and participating in all aspects of the conference," Mr. Miller said. "I was proud of all they did and so grateful for the support of all the students and staff at BSU who helped me succeed in the role I played at the conference."
Mr. Miller, along with Director Cindy Kane, Ms. Moynihan, presented a total of 5 different educational sessions during the conference.
Also attending were 12 BSU students, representing both the program committee and residence hall association. The conference each year offers attendees a plethora of helpful information, said Kassaundra Przelomski, 15.
“I learned a lot from NACA. A lot of new things that Program Committee can grow from, but also I learned a lot as a leader," she said.
The focus of NACA conference is to bring together students and staff from institutions of higher education, as well as representatives of the entertainment and service industries to provide programs and products that encourage student engagement. Read more about it here.
