Linden MacIntyre, an award-winning Canadian investigative journalist and novelist, visited campus to present his lecture, "Fiction – A High Road to Truth," as this year’s Distinguished Canadian Address.

“I'm hopeful that his talk will motivate students at BSU to want to learn more about Canada," said Dr. Andy Holman, director of Canadian Studies, in his opening remarks.

Mr. MacIntyre has recently retired, or as he would like to say “stepped down,” from his lengthy career at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

He spoke about journalism as a great career and one that eventually led him to fiction writing. Also, he talked the recent violence that has occurred in Canada. His advice? “Step back, take a deep breath, and think,” he said, adding that “the best antidote for fear is reason.”

“Mr. MacIntyre's talk was a timely contribution to a discussion that all North Americans should be having in the wake of the recent violence in Ottawa and St-Jean, Canada, and its sensationalized reportage in the US and Canada,” said Professor. Holman. (Story and photo by student Caitlin Seddon, University News)
