Students at BSU are going places. Literally. And much of the credit goes to the Office of Study Abroad, which met with 350 interested students at its annual fall event.
Weeks after the fair, OSA geared up for the winter and spring study abroad application deadline of Sept. 26.
“It’s turning out to be a great year,” said Michael Sandy, new director of the Office of Study Abroad. “We have a lot of students applying to study abroad, and we’re really excited about the new travel assistance award provided by the Division of External Affairs to support students who demonstrate a financial need.”
OSA introduced the awards to support students interested in participating in academic international education programs, including faculty-led travel courses, languages abroad and study abroad semesters.
Two dozen students received travel assistance awards, which will fund study tours, international student teaching, exchanges, and more. In total, 159 students applied to winter study tours, with 122 accepted; 72 students applied for spring semester programs with 44 accepted; two students were accepted for winter programs through affiliate providers; and 12 students were accepted for international student teaching and will spent the spring semester in places such as Ecuador, Belize, and England. In addition, students will also be exploring great study destinations like Italy, Belize, Thailand, Panama and Nicaragua.
