John MacLellan, ’88, traveled to Washington earlier this month where President Obama presented him and 24 of his fellow police officers the “Top Cop Award” for their bravery and dedication. He was also named an Officer of the Month by the National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund. The Watertown police sergeant was involved in the shootout with the alleged suspects three nights after the Boston Marathon bombing.

Vice President Joseph Biden shook Sgt. MacLellan’s hand after the ceremony and told him, “I wish you could patrol my hometown while I’m sleeping at night. I’d sleep a lot better.” (Story by John Winters, main photo by Karen Callan, D.C. photo submitted)
